Would a 250cc 4 stroke motorcycle/dirt bike engine work with an ATV/Gocart/Car?
Hello! I am planning on building a Go-cart, but I had a question on the engine. I am looking for a 250cc 4 stroke engine at a low cost.
And what do you think the MPG would be for a 250cc 4 stroke engine? (For an ATV/Gocart)
Also what would the top speed be without the weight of a frame/chassis dragging it down? Sorry I am knew to this, currently my knowledge of automobiles is very basic.

It would work, it would push a go kart faster than you probably want to go, but it would take a bit of engineering and fab work. You would most certainly need one with electric start or that would be a royal pain. You would have to get your gearing right, do some math and figure how large the rear wheel/sprocket is on the motorcycle and then get it into proportion as to what you want to get from it. You would need a tank with a fuel pump if you didn't want to mount the tank about the motor (not a good idea, raises center of gravity), and you would want to make an air filter/carb mount. Lots of little details would have to go into it, too.
As far as MPG, I would guess between 30-50, just from what I know about bikes. I am guessing if you used the transmission on the bike motor you could get her up to 70 pretty easy and still get there quick.
