Can I use a float charger on two batteries at the same time?
One is a 35 Ah AGM and the other is a 7.2 Ah gel cell. They both will normally be at a residual voltage of 12.8. Sometimes one or the other of the two batteries may be 1 to 1½ volts different than the other.
When the batteries are not in use I plan to leave the float charger attached. They are connected positive to positive, neg to neg.

There are several hightech battery chargers that are designed for multiple battery banks. If you read the instructions very carefully, I'm not positive that you can mix, AGM and Gel but I'm sure you can't use one of the small trickle chargers that are designed for one battery and wire them parallel in the manner you suggest. However, these are relatively inexpensive, so simply buy a second charger, and use one for each battery. It will give you a bonus that you can charge both much quicker when you discharge them.
