Inner bearing race stuck. 93 GMC K3500 Dually?
I blew out my left rear axle bearing and now that it's apart, the inner bearing race is stuck to the stub axle (inner bearing, inner race) ...and I mean stuck. It sits too deep to use a bearing puller/slide hammer- not that there is anything to grab on to. I've tried heat and even have carefully ground down the race, but now that it's close, I'm getting nervous to damage anything. I can't even get it to rotate with a hammer/chisel.
I'm open to all suggestions...please help!
Answer:
I'm guessing that you ground down the race from the top,not the side or bottom. Use a 3 inch or smaller cut-off wheel to finish cutting through the race. As long as you don't put a mark in the area where the seal rides you'll be ok. If there is a small mark left where the race rides,don't worry,the carrying weight is distributed on the lower half of the spindle.
