Tips on How to Make Your Very Own Electric Motor Bicycle
Electric bicycles are definitely the rave these days. And with the high prices of fuel, worsening pollution and increasing traffic congestion, many are starting to opt for better transportation that can take them to different places. Most of them like something that is very convenient, at the same time something that will allow them to save some cash. And these are exactly what an electric bicycle does.
What's great about electric bicycles is how easy they are to own. Buying a new one is way cheaper than buying a new car or a traditional motorcycle. However, if you can build one, you can definitely save more money. And building an electric bike is super easy. You just have to start with an old bike and an electric bicycle motor conversion. You should also follow this step-by-step instruction, and in no time, you will be riding in style with your own eBike.
1. First, you have to find out if your bike can be converted into an electric one. You can refer to your conversion kit manual to find out if you can really turn your old bike into an eBike. Make sure also that your electric motor conversion kit is the right size for your bike.
2. Once you figure out those important things, you now need strip the bike down and remove all the unnecessary accessories. You have to bring it down to its bare minimum.
3. You then need to remove the front wheel of the bike. Do this by turning the bike upside down, then releasing all the air from the tire. You then have to unscrew the axle nuts of the wheel to completely remove it from the frame. When doing this, be extra careful as to not damage the brakes.
4. After removing the front wheel, you then install the new front wheel that comes with your electric bicycle motor conversion kit. This new front wheel have wires attach to the that will connect to the battery pack of the motor. You need to properly place the wheel so the wires will not be on the way. To be sure about this, refer to the manual to know which side of the bike the wires should need to exit from. Some conversion kits have the wires on the left side of the bike, while some have it on the right. After figuring this out, you then have to secure the wheel properly by tightening the axle bolts by using a wrench. If necessary, adjust the brake so they work properly.
5. Then, you have to mount the battery pack to the bike. The place where you should put them may vary depending on the model type of the conversion kit you have. However, most battery packs for electric bicycle motor kits use the rear axle and seat clamp as support.
6. After mounting the battery pack in its proper place, you now have to install the controllers. There may be some variations again where you have to put them, but controllers usually go below the handlebars or under the seat rack. Use zip ties or bungee cables to install the controller properly.
7. Next, install the throttle. Do this by removing the right handlebar grip. All you need to do is to slide the throttle over the handlebar and using a wrench, tighten them in place.
8. After that, you now need to run the wires and connect them to the motor and controllers. You shouls also connect them to the throttle. Make sure that you did proper wiring by referring to the manual. Tame the wires using zip ties so they are not in the way for when you are riding the bike. Finally, you can connect the wires to the batteries to complete the circuit.
9. Test the ignition to ensure that everything is in their proper places. If you did everything right, you will be riding your electric bike in no time.
